We are a group of “big boat” sailors who regularly meet to race model radio controlled RC Laser sailboats each Sunday on Canandaigua Lake.
Membership dues for 2012 are $20 and we do not have an initiation fee. Just show up with your RC Laser and say something like, “Hey, I’d like to join your group, here’s $20 bucks!”
You can also join the fleet or renew your membership and pay online. Memberships run for one full sailing season and end at the Sailor’s Night Awards Banquet in October.
Weather permitting, which mostly means “no lightning”, we meet year-round on the south end of the waterfront dock at the Canandaigua Yacht Club on Canandaigua Lake, which is located a couple of miles down West Lake Road in Canandaigua, New York and we meet on Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. between October and May and then at 4 p.m. between June and September. We are usually sailing for a couple of hours and get in 6-8 races each week depending on the wind.
We encourage all of our RC Laser sailors to join the North American RC Laser Class Association. Annual dues for the class are $10 and they go to support the activities such as maintaining the official one-design rules, promotion of the class at events and hosting the web association web site. Our club is fleet #14 in the North American RC Laser Class Association.
Several sailors in our fleet have also joined the American Model Yachting Association. The AMYA promotes model yacht sailing across the country and they help support the RC Laser fleet by publishing articles on our class and promoting our events on their web site and in their quarterly magazine. Our fleet is AMYA sanctioned club #315.
If you would like to try your fingers on the remote controls of a Radio Controlled Model RC Laser, just stop by on Sunday and we’ll get you set up for a race or two with one of our boats!
